Textures of the Moor: An Artistic Escape into Nature

Nestled in the rolling Devon countryside, our five-star manor house offers the perfect base to pause, reflect, and reconnect - with nature, creativity, and yourself.

There’s a quiet magic to Dartmoor - a raw, untamed beauty that has long stirred the imaginations of artists, poets and wanderers. This September, Boringdon Hall invites you to experience that magic for yourself with our Textures of the Moor Break: a two-night creative retreat that blends artistic exploration, wild landscapes, and refined comfort.

Art Inspired by the Land

At the heart of this immersive experience is a ticket to ‘Momentum of the Moors’, a textured painting workshop led by Devon artist Gemma Lessinger. Known for her earthy, tactile works that honour the natural world, Gemma will guide you through the process of creating your own moorland-inspired artwork using repurposed materials and eco-conscious techniques.

Before you begin, you’ll be led on a guided nature connection walk with Kate from The Cornish Explorer. As you meander through moorland paths and absorb the subtle shifts in texture, colour, and form, you’ll gather inspiration to take back to the studio. From intricate leaf patterns to the roots beneath your feet, every detail offers a story waiting to be told through art.

A Culinary Journey

Evenings are reserved for indulgence, with dinner at the 2 AA Rosette Mayflower Brasserie included on both nights. Here, local and seasonal ingredients are transformed into vibrant, flavourful dishes that celebrate creativity in the kitchen. Whether you’re returning from the moor or the easel, it’s the perfect way to end the day.

For an elevated culinary experience, guests may also choose to dine at Àclèaf, our Michelin-starred and 4 AA Rosette restaurant. It’s an exceptional way to round off a weekend of artistry and exploration.

Relax and Reconnect

In between your creative sessions and nature walks, take time to unwind at our award-winning Gaia Spa, where full access is included for the duration of your stay. Swim, steam, or simply sink into stillness. Guests also enjoy 10% off additional pre-booked spa treatments for that extra touch of indulgence.

Each morning begins with a leisurely breakfast in the Mayflower Brasserie or Spatisserie, ensuring you’re well-fuelled for whatever the day may bring.
